Configurazione di prova e benchmark
In molte delle comparative che abbiamo visto, Ion è stato messo a confronto con una configurazione G45 desktop a basso costo o una configurazione Atom 945G. Data la forza di questo IGP, abbiamo dato per scontato che questa configurazione sarebbe stata più veloce della motherboard Intel mini-ITX D945GCLF2 per Atom (che costa 80 euro contro i 180 euro di Ion).
Così, abbiamo realizzato una piattaforma con lo stesso prezzo, ma basata su hardware più tradizionale . Abbiamo usato una scheda madre Gigabyte MA78GPM-DS2H micro-ATX (chipset AMD 780G con 128 MB di memoria side-port), un processore Athlon X2 7850 dual-core, un alimentatore Enermax ETK405AST 405W - il tutto a 185 euro, più o meno il costo dell'offerta Zotac.
I puristi del mini-ITX ci diranno che la nostra soluzione micro-ATX non può entrare in un case mini-ITX. Tuttavia dobbiamo dire che il mini-ITX è più costoso e non si prestava a un confronto prestazionale ideale con Ion.
